Painting the Flat Iron Building

Last Friday night, Clear 4G Wireless and Mobispray hosted an event outside of the Flat Iron Building on 23rd Street in which participants could paint the exterior of the building. The Mobispray technology allows them to spray paint designs by way of a light projector, making them large-scale and similar to graffiti.

I heard about the event through Twitter, and even though it fell on the same night as a work event I had to attend, I still made sure to see this light spectacle for myself. Once I reached the Flat Iron District and saw the Flat Iron covered in paint from a far, I started running—I was so excited to see one of my favorite New York City buildings in a new... light.

What's new?

There is a new set of sculptures in the Flat Iron District between 5th & 6th Avenues and below 23rd Street. Amy and I went down there after Broadway in Bryant Park one day last week to get cupcakes from the Cupcake Stop Truck when we noticed the tall Daisies in the pedestrian area of Broadway between the Flat Iron building and Madison Square Park. There were green plastic couches for people to sit on, plugs for charging your mac or phone, and signs telling about free WiFi and whatever other features I can't remember now. It is all part of a Prius promotion. I think that's a car. 

Anyway, it's a great place to sit, chat, people watch and eat a cupcake!

Lights

Here I have some street pictures, made colorful and full of light by the cars and the rain. I took these probably half a year ago or more (I'm on vacation right now so had to dig this up, lol) when I was walking around on a rainy Saturday night by myself in the Flat Iron District (around 23rd Street and 5th Avenue). Yeah, New York can make you do crazy, creepy things (like walk around by yourself in the rain. Well, actually, I was out shopping on 5th Avenue and couldn't find any cute clothes so I resorted to taking lots of pictures and videos!)
